Eligibility and Selection
All participants enrolled in summer tennis are eligible for Tysons Cup.
An availability form will be sent to all eligible players the first week of June. It is very important that you provide your player’s availability to play before the start of the season. Availability can be edited at any time but is due by Thursday prior to the following week’s matches. Participation is optional. Please disregard the availability form if you are not interested in participating in the league.
There are a limited number of matches in each division, so not all available players can be selected*. Mantua’s tennis director and coaches will determine the lineup based on a number of factors such as availability, skill, match results, and practice participation. Lineups are sent out each week, a few days before each match.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child is ready to play in Tysons Cup? Our coaches will assess players abilities and readiness to play.
8U players often play their first match ever in Tysons Cup. In this age group, kids typically need to maintain a 4-5 ball rally. Matches are short with simple tie-break scoring. Coaches will be on court to help this age group.
10U players typically have 1-3 years of tennis experience. This is a great entry point to playing competitive tennis.
12U and up players will find a more competitive field in Tysons Cup. Many players in this division have played 3+ years, enroll in tennis lessons year round, and have competitive match experience.
We are not available for all 8 matches. Can my child play for only part of the season? Yes! You do not need to commit to every match. In the availability form, you can mark exactly which days your child is available.
How do I know if my child has been selected to play? Lineups are sent out each week, a few days before each match (Typically by Saturday for Tuesday’s match and Monday for Thursday’s match.) If you are on the lineup, you will receive an email with a link to confirm availability. If you are not selected, you will not receive an email.
When do we need to arrive? Do I need to stay after my match is over? Matches take place between 4-6pm. You will be assigned a match time. Plan to arrive 10-15 mins before your match time. Matches may start early if players are present and courts are available. Players may leave immediately after their match is complete.
Are spectators allowed at Tysons Cup matches? Absolutely! Family, friends, teammates are all welcome. Juniors not playing in Tysons Cup are encouraged to come and support their team. Please remember to be respectful to all players during matches. Do not talk to players or make line calls from the sideline. Cheering is allowed when points are over, not during play. Remember we should applaud all good points, not errors.
